Step-by-Step Repair
- 1
Unplug the washer
Pull the power cord from the wall outlet. Safety first โ never work on a machine that is plugged in.
- 2
Locate the drain pump filter
On LG front-load washers, look at the bottom-left corner of the front panel. There is a small access door. Open it with a flathead screwdriver or by pressing the tab. You will see a small hose and a round filter cap.
- 3
Drain remaining water
Pull out the small emergency drain hose (next to the filter cap). Place the end in a shallow pan or bowl and remove the plug. Let the water drain out slowly. This can take a few minutes if the tub is full.
- 4
Remove and clean the filter
Once the water has drained, turn the round filter cap counter-clockwise and pull it out. Remove any debris โ coins, hair, lint, or small clothing items. Rinse the filter under running water.
- 5
Check the drain hose
Look at the drain hose at the back of the machine. Make sure it is not kinked, pinched, or clogged. Also check where it connects to your standpipe or sink โ that connection can get clogged too.
- 6
Reassemble and test
Put the filter back in (turn clockwise until snug), plug the small drain hose back in, and close the access door. Plug the washer in and run a quick rinse-and-spin cycle. The OE error should be cleared.
If That Didn't Work
- Kinked drain hose behind the washer
- Clogged standpipe or home plumbing issue
- Failed drain pump motor
- Faulty water level pressure switch
When to Call a Professional
If the filter is clean and the hose is not kinked, the drain pump motor itself may have failed. You can test it by listening โ if you hear a humming noise but no water drains, the pump is likely stuck or burned out. Replacing the pump is a Medium job. A tech will charge $120โ$200 including the part.
