Step-by-Step Repair

    Unplug and remove the bowl

    Unplug the food processor. Unlock and remove the work bowl from the base. Do not try to pull the blade off while the bowl is on the base — you will not have enough leverage.

    Soak in warm water

    Fill the bowl with warm (not boiling) water until it covers the blade hub. Add a drop of dish soap. Let it soak for 15-20 minutes. The warm water softens dried food buildup that is locking the blade onto the shaft.

    Apply oil to the shaft

    After soaking, pour out the water. Spray a small amount of cooking spray or put a few drops of vegetable oil around the base of the blade where it meets the shaft. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. The oil seeps into the gap and helps break the bond.

    Twist and lift

    Grip the plastic center hub of the blade with a thick dish towel or rubber jar gripper. Do not grab the blades. Gently twist the blade back and forth while pulling up. Do not yank — a steady twist-and-pull motion works best. If it still won't budge, soak it for another 15 minutes and try again.

    Prevent it from happening again

    Once the blade is free, wash both the blade and the shaft thoroughly. To prevent this from happening again, always remove the blade right after using the food processor and wash it immediately. A light coating of cooking spray on the shaft before storing also helps.
