Step-by-Step Repair
- 1
Check the sealing ring
Remove the lid and look at the silicone ring that sits in the groove around the inside of the lid. Pull it out gently. Check for cracks, warping, or food buildup. If the ring looks stretched out or does not spring back when you squeeze it, it needs to be replaced.
- 2
Clean the sealing ring and lid
Wash the sealing ring with warm soapy water. Clean the groove in the lid where the ring sits. Food residue in this groove is a very common reason for poor sealing. Make sure everything is completely clean before putting the ring back.
- 3
Check the steam release valve
Make sure the steam release valve on top of the lid is set to Sealing, not Venting. Push it back and forth a few times to make sure it moves freely. Also check that nothing is stuck inside it.
- 4
Inspect the float valve
The float valve is the small pin on the lid that pops up when the pot reaches pressure. Push it up and down with your finger โ it should move freely. If it is stuck or has food buildup around it, clean it with a damp cloth. You can push a toothpick through the hole to clear debris.
- 5
Do a water test
Put one cup of water in the pot. Close the lid, set the valve to Sealing, and run a 5-minute pressure cook cycle. The pot should come to pressure within 10 minutes. If the float valve pops up and no steam escapes from the sides, your seal is good. If it still leaks, replace the sealing ring โ they are inexpensive and easy to swap in.
If That Didn't Work
- Not enough liquid in the pot (minimum one cup required)
- Lid not aligned or locked properly
- Damaged or bent lid rim
- Food or thick sauce blocking the float valve from rising
