Apple iPhones iPhone 15 Screen Replacement: How to Fix It Yourself

A cracked or broken iPhone 15 screen can still be replaced at home if you are patient and careful. This is a harder repair because the iPhone 15 has thin ribbon cables and waterproof adhesive that takes effort to work through. If your screen shows an image but the glass is cracked, this guide is for you.

โšก Difficulty: Hardโฑ 45-90 minutes๐Ÿ’ฐ Parts cost: $40โ€“$250๐Ÿ”ง Tools: Pentalobe screwdriver (P2), Suction cup, Plastic spudger, Tweezers, Heat gun or hair dryer, Magnetic screw mat

โš ๏ธ Safety First

  • Power off your iPhone completely before starting.
  • If the battery is swollen or puffy, stop immediately and take it to a professional.
  • Keep screws organized โ€” the iPhone 15 uses different-length screws that must go back in the right spots.
  • Disconnect the battery before disconnecting or connecting the display cables.

Step-by-Step Repair

  1. 1

Gather your tools and back up your phone

Before you start, back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer. You do not want to lose your photos or data if something goes wrong. Lay out all your tools on a clean, flat surface. A magnetic mat helps keep tiny screws from rolling away.

  2. 2

Remove the bottom screws and loosen the screen

Power off the iPhone. Remove the two pentalobe screws on either side of the charging port. Apply gentle heat along the edges of the screen with a hair dryer for about 2 minutes โ€” this softens the waterproof adhesive. Place the suction cup near the bottom edge and pull up firmly while sliding a thin plastic pick into the gap.

  3. 3

Disconnect the battery and display cables

Once the screen is open (it hinges from the left side), remove the metal bracket covering the battery connector. Use your spudger to pop the battery connector off the board. Then remove the bracket over the display cables and gently disconnect each ribbon cable. There are usually 3 connectors for the display and sensors.

  4. 4

Transfer components to the new screen

Your old screen has the earpiece speaker and front sensor assembly attached to it. Carefully remove these parts and transfer them to your new display. Follow a video guide for your exact model โ€” the sensor flex cable is very delicate.

  5. 5

Connect the new display and test

Connect the new display's ribbon cables to the logic board. Reconnect the battery. Power on the phone and test everything โ€” touch response, Face ID, brightness, and the earpiece. Do this before sealing the phone shut.

  6. 6

    Seal and reassemble

If everything works, apply new waterproof adhesive around the frame (included with most screen kits). Press the screen down firmly and replace the two bottom pentalobe screws. Your phone will not be as water-resistant as factory, but it will still have good protection.

If That Didn't Work

  • A loose display cable can cause a blank screen without the glass being cracked.
  • Software crashes can make the screen appear dead โ€” try a force restart first.
  • If only part of the touch screen is unresponsive, the digitizer layer may be damaged even if the glass looks fine.

When to Call a Professional

If you are not comfortable working with tiny ribbon cables, or if Face ID stops working after your repair, a professional can help. Apple and authorized service providers can also do this repair with genuine parts and preserve your warranty.
