InSinkErator — Not Turning On
When an InSinkErator garbage disposal won't turn on, it has almost always tripped its internal overload protector. This happens when the motor overheats — usually because something jammed the blades. The fix takes about 2 minutes and costs nothing.
InSinkErator — Humming But Not Spinning
A garbage disposal that hums but doesn't spin is jammed. The motor is trying to run but something is blocking the impeller plate from turning. This is one of the most common disposal problems and is almost always fixable in minutes with an Allen wrench.
GE — Leaking from Bottom
A garbage disposal leaking from the bottom can come from three places: the sink flange at the top, the discharge pipe on the side, or the actual body of the unit. If it's leaking from the very bottom shell, the internal seal has failed and the unit needs replacement. Flange and pipe leaks are cheap fixes.
