OnePlus Android Phones OnePlus Phone Won't Charge: How to Fix It Yourself
If your OnePlus phone will not charge, it is usually caused by a dirty port, a bad cable, or a software glitch โ not a broken phone. OnePlus fast charging (Warp Charge / SUPERVOOC) is also picky about cables, so make sure you are using the right one.
โ ๏ธ Safety First
- Never use a metal tool to clean the charging port.
- If the phone is hot while attempting to charge, unplug it immediately.
- OnePlus Warp Charge / SUPERVOOC requires the original cable and adapter โ third-party chargers may not work.

Step-by-Step Repair
- 1
Try a different cable and charger
OnePlus fast charging only works with the charger and cable that came with your phone. Third-party cables often do not support Warp Charge or SUPERVOOC. Try the original cable first. If you do not have it, try any USB-C cable to see if the phone charges at all, even slowly.
- 2
Clean the charging port
Shine a flashlight into the USB-C port and look for lint or debris. Use a wooden toothpick to gently scrape out any buildup at the bottom of the port. This is the single most common fix for charging problems on any phone.
- 3
Restart the phone
Hold the Power button for 10 seconds to force restart. Software bugs can sometimes prevent the phone from recognizing the charger. After the restart, plug in the charger and check if it charges.
- 4
Check for software updates
Go to Settings > System > System Updates and install any available update. OnePlus has fixed charging bugs in past OxygenOS updates. Also check that Battery Optimization or any battery-saving mode is not interfering with charging.
- 5
Boot into Safe Mode
Power off the phone, then hold the Power button. When the OnePlus logo appears, hold Volume Down until the phone boots with Safe Mode in the corner. Try charging in Safe Mode. If it charges normally, a third-party app is interfering โ uninstall recently installed apps.
If That Didn't Work
- A damaged or frayed cable can cause intermittent charging.
- A low-power USB port (like on a laptop) may not charge the phone fast enough to keep up with usage.
- Water or moisture in the port can temporarily prevent charging.
- A failing battery can refuse to charge โ especially if the phone is more than 2 years old.
When to Call a Professional
If cleaning the port and trying different cables does not work, the charging port may be physically damaged. A repair shop can replace the charging port flex cable. If the battery itself is the problem, they can replace that too.
