Brother Printers Brother Printer Not Connecting to WiFi: How to Fix It Yourself

Brother printers lose WiFi connection due to network changes, IP conflicts, or the printer's wireless module needing a reset. Most of the time, reconfiguring the wireless connection from scratch fixes it.

⚠️ Safety First

  • Make sure you know your WiFi password before starting — you'll need to re-enter it.

Step-by-Step Repair

  1. 1

    Restart your printer and router

Turn off your Brother printer. Unplug your WiFi router for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for it to fully restart (all lights stable). Then turn on your printer. This clears IP conflicts and refreshes the network connection.

  2. 2

    Print a network configuration page

On the printer, go to Settings > Network > Print Network Config (the exact path varies by model). This page shows the printer's current IP address, connection status, and WiFi name. Check if it's connected to the correct WiFi network.

  3. 3

Reset the network settings on the printer

Go to Settings > Network > Network Reset and confirm. This clears all saved WiFi information. After the reset, go to Settings > Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard. The printer will scan for nearby networks. Select yours and enter the password carefully.

  4. 4

    Check your router settings

Make sure your router isn't blocking new devices. Check that the WiFi band matches what your printer supports — many Brother printers only connect to 2.4GHz, not 5GHz. If your router combines both bands under one name, you may need to separate them or connect the printer using WPS.

  5. 5

Reinstall the printer on your computer

After the printer connects to WiFi, you may need to re-add it on your computer. On Windows: Settings > Devices > Printers. On Mac: System Settings > Printers & Scanners. Remove the old printer entry and add it again. Your computer should find it on the network.

If That Didn't Work

  • Router firmware update changed security protocol
  • Too many devices connected to router (device limit reached)
  • Printer too far from router (weak signal)
  • MAC address filtering enabled on router

When to Call a Professional

This is a fully DIY fix. If you've tried everything and the printer still won't connect, the WiFi module in the printer may be failing — at that point, using a USB cable is a free workaround.
