Samsung Ovens & Ranges Not Heating Evenly: How to Fix It Yourself

A Samsung oven that heats unevenly โ€” hot spots, undercooked centers, or one side hotter than the other โ€” is usually caused by a failing temperature sensor, a burned-out bake or broil element, or improper rack placement. An oven thermometer helps pinpoint the issue.

โšก Difficulty: Easyโฑ 15-30 minutes๐Ÿ’ฐ Parts cost: $0โ€“$25๐Ÿ”ง Tools: Oven thermometer, Multimeter

โš ๏ธ Safety First

  • Turn off the oven and let it cool completely before inspecting.
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before testing electrical components.
  • Do not touch heating elements โ€” they can retain heat for a long time.

Step-by-Step Repair

  1. 1

    Test with an oven thermometer

Place an oven thermometer in the center of the middle rack. Set the oven to 350 degrees F and let it preheat for 20 minutes. Check the thermometer. If the reading is off by more than 25 degrees, the temperature sensor may be inaccurate.

  2. 2

    Check the bake element

Turn the oven on to bake and look at the bottom element. It should glow evenly orange-red across its entire length. If there are dark spots or sections that do not glow, the element is partially burned out and needs replacing.

  3. 3

    Check the broil element

Turn on the broil setting and look at the top element. Same check โ€” it should glow evenly. A partially failed broil element can cause uneven top browning. Some ovens use the broil element during bake mode for more even heating.

  4. 4

    Test the temperature sensor

The oven temperature sensor is a thin metal probe usually located at the top back wall of the oven interior. Disconnect power, unscrew the sensor, and test it with a multimeter. At room temperature, it should read approximately 1,080 ohms. Significantly different readings mean it is faulty.

  5. 5

    Calibrate the oven temperature

If the sensor tests fine but the temperature is slightly off, you can calibrate it. Check your Samsung manual for the temperature offset procedure โ€” most models let you adjust the temperature up or down by 5-degree increments through the settings menu.

If That Didn't Work

  • Convection fan not working (on convection models)
  • Oven door seal damaged, letting heat escape
  • Control board sending incorrect temperature signals

When to Call a Professional

If the bake or broil element needs replacing and you are not comfortable working with 240V wiring, a technician can swap it for $100โ€“$180. If the control board is at fault, expect $200โ€“$350 for replacement.
